First Day with Invisalign Treatment®

Hello everyone! So you might have seen this post where I discussed why we chose Invisalign® clear aligners for our daughter. The big day is here – she is finally being fitted for her custom aligners! I have to say my daughter was so excited to do this, and it is all she talked about for weeks!  And as a mom, I know just how important it is for kids to have self-confidence. She is all smiles for the big event! My daughter is a very active tween – she ice skates, plays the French horn, and does all kinds of sports at school. Her busy lifestyle makes Invisalign treatment an easy choice. Having Invisalign clear aligners is especially important because she ice skates. Ice skating is her passion, and she spends 10-15 hours a week on the ice. Inevitably, that means she is likely to have a few falls and bumps along the way.  The Invisalign system has no sharp metal wires or brackets, so that means there are no emergency appointments from metal cutting her lips or mouth during ice skating. And she is responsible too. You have to wear the aligners at least 20 and preferably 22 hours a day, so that means basically wearing them all the time, except when eating or drinking. And I love that she doesn’t have to take them out for her sports activities!

I didn’t know this until we had her fitting appointment, but in my daughter’s case our orthodontist placed SmartForce® attachments on her teeth. These are small, tooth-colored nubs that are attached to your teeth to encourage movement during your Invisalign® treatment. They’re like handles, giving aligners something to gently push on during treatment. And Invisalign clear aligners fit smoothly and tightly around them, so they’re barely noticeable.

I also didn’t know this until we had her fitting appointment, but Invisalign treatment uses SmartTrack® material to make the aligners move your teeth with more predictability compared to other aligner materials. This material works in conjunction with SmartForce attachments to enable the aligners to fit comfortably around the teeth, while applying gentle, constant force*.

So the fact that Invisalign clear aligners use both SmartForce® attachments and SmartTrack® material means that in the end you can get a desirable result in an efficient way. These two systems work together to effectively straighten teeth in a more advanced fashion than traditional orthodontic treatments or other clear aligners.
