A New Year and A New Look

The beginning of the year is always about a refresh, that is starting anew. This is the time were I try to set fitness and health goals (though I don’t exactly set resolutions). I also like to freshen up my look for the new year too! When researching new salons to try here in Ann Arbor, I came across the Avissa Salon and Spa. I was impressed with their positive reviews so I decided to give them a try!

Hair Goals for the New Year

My hair was in desperate need for a refresh. With my busy schedule, I hadn’t had a chance to get a haircut and color in several months. My hair was looking dull and lifeless, and even my daughter told me, “Mommy, you need to lighten your hair!”. When my 11 year old daughter notices, then I know I needed to do something! I’ve been trying to grow out my hair for the last two years, so all I wanted was a trim. I new I needed highlights too. Having tried balayage in the past, I decided to go with traditional highlights. My hair is already nice shade of golden blonde so I wanted to keep it that way. The biggest change I wanted to make for my hair was to add length with extensions. After getting a bad haircut two years ago, the front of my hair has been much shorter than the back. I’ve been trying to grow it out ever since, but it has been very slow. So I finally decided to try extensions!

The Avissa Salon Experience

My entire experience at the Avissa salon has been wonderful! The salon itself is clean, bright, and refreshing. As soon as I came in I was greeted by a professional and friendly staff. I was offered water as soon as I came into the salon. My stylist, Kimia was kind and courteous, and she greeted me right away. And she listened to me when I told her the goals I was trying to achieve. She gave me the clean and refreshing trim I was looking for. And she gave my hair the perfect golden blonde color I wanted to have!

Hair Extensions First Impressions

I had never had hair extensions, so I didn’t really know what to expect. The one thing I did not want was clip-in extensions. I wanted something semi-permanent, natural, and easy to maintain. Kimia suggested I try tape-in extensions. I looked at her a bit incredulously, and she said, “No, it’s not Scotch tape!”. Of course I trusted her and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results! The back of my hair is already naturally long and full, so I wanted to leave that as is. What I really wanted to do is to “fill in the gap” in the front of my hair so the length matches the back of my head. She used 100% human hair for the extensions, and she placed several locks on each side of my head around my ears. My hair has never looked fuller, and the color matches my natural hair perfectly!

All About Tape-In Hair Extensions

Tape-in hair extensions are so easy to maintain! They don’t feel heavy at all, and they feel just like my normal hair. I can wash, dry, brush, curl, and even braid my new extensions just like my normal hair. And I can wear it in a bun or ponytail and you can’t even tell I am wearing them. I find that the extensions even hold curl better than my natural hair. You do have to treat them gently though, as you don’t want to disturb the tape. And the tape-in extensions will have to be reapplied every 6-8 weeks (but you can use the same ones again). And I love that they are safe, and they won’t damage my hair. They are easily removed with a special adhesive when the time is right. Overall I am so glad I got them, and I will definitely keep using them!

  1. c’est bluffant ! on dirait vos cheveux. C’est une coupe glamour qui vous va très bien.J’aime bien votre look aussi !

  2. Your hair looks beautiful with those extensions. I also prefer using tape-ins because I have thin hair and I find that they don’t cause any damage to my hair. I use Zala tape-in extensions (https://www.zalahair.com/). They’re lightweight and non-damaging!
