Inspiring Valentine’s Day Dresses
Today’s post is such a fun one! I am teaming up with four of my favorite bloggers (Ruth Ridley, Debbie of To Thine Own Style Be True, Staja Johnson, and Louella Reese) to show you five inspiring Valentine’s Day dresses. With winter in full force, it is so nice to be able to get dressed up to feel glamorous for the day we celebrate love.
There are always certain pieces that they have in their closet to make them feel amazing. For me the little red dress is it! With my fair skin and blond hair, the color red really just stands out on me. I don’t often wear red, but I knew I wanted a red dress for Valentine’s day. When I saw this Likely Centinela Ruffled Crossover dress, I knew I had found the dress made for me! The wrap style with the feminine ruffled hem is really what caught my eye. This is the kind of dress that is truly flattering on just about every body type. This dress is perfect for petites, with it’s above the knee hem.
I have a love-hate relationship with wrap dresses. So often wrap dresses don’t stay put, and I am constantly worried about a wardrobe malfunction. This dress has the appearance of a wrap dress, but it is strategically put together so the dress stays put where it should. I am wearing a size 2, but I could have even worn a 0 as this dress does run slightly large.
Accessorizing a Red Dress
A stunning red dress like this calls for understated accessories. I found these simple red ball drop earrings on Amazon. These earrings are just as nice as many Baublebar pieces I own, but the cost is a third of what I would pay for Baublebar earrings. A simple crystal pendant complements both the necklace and the earrings.
With so much bold color, I do like to wear more neutral colors for shoes and my bag. So I am wearing my leg-lengthening Christian Louboutin So Kate heels. These heels are definitely gorgeous, though they are not known for comfort (see my full review here). I only wear these heels for short periods of time and I make sure to wear this Sheec toe cover as it makes all the difference in the world in terms of comfort.
The Likely Centinela ruffle dress has been one of the more popular Valentine’s Day dresses, so it is sold out in the smaller sizes. Several other red dresses have also caught my eye. This gorgeous ruffled v-neck dress would look good on just about anyone and it is under $100. This simple yet elegant red off-the shoulder body con dress is petite friendly and flattering on anyone with a toned upper body. Finally this flattering red strapless midi dress will naturally highlight the curves of anyone with an hourglass shape.

What are your top go-to special occasion dress designers for petites? It’s so frustrating to find that most of the department stores no longer have a dedicated petites department and that many only stock them online! I’m a 50+ petite woman shopping for a black-tie wedding for our chief of surgery’s 2nd wedding — and striking out left and right! Attempting not to be the frumpiest woman in the room – Eeek!
Ally…More often than not I look at Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and sometimes Macy’s or Nordstrom. Plus if the dress is cut short anyway, I can get away with a regular size as even though I am 5″1′ I am long-waisted. I hope this helps!
