5 Thoughtful Ways to show Thanks

Even though Christmas is just weeks away, Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet. Thanksgiving is the time where I love getting together with family and reflecting about all I have to be thankful for this year. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for my dad who is still here despite battling stage 4 esophageal cancer. Most of all I am thankful to be alive and happy, especially after witnessing a very personal suicide in my family. Every day really is a gift, and Thanksgiving is a wonderful way to acknowledge this simple fact. So today I though I would show you five simple suggestions for expressing gratitude towards others this holiday season. Some of these are suggestions for hosting Thanksgiving dinner yourself, and others are ways to show others how much you care.

1. Write A Simple Note of Thanks For Your Guests

I remember as a young child telling each one of my family why I was grateful to have them in my life. It was rather simple as we just shared thoughtful sentiments out loud around the table. You can take it a step further by writing a note of thanks for each of your Thanksgiving guests and placing it at their table setting. Your guest will really love sitting down to read a thoughtful note before the big feast. You can even leave a blank sheet of paper and pen for your guests so they can write a note for the person sitting next to them.

2. Send Fresh Flowers

If you are going to someone else’s house for Thanksgiving, surprise them by bringing a fresh bouquet of flowers. An autumn theme is always nice around Thanksgiving (the ones you see here are from FTD Flowers). Even better, send a bouquet of flowers to someone you care about, who might be lonely and who would be totally surprised by receiving a bouquet of flowers on their doorstep.

3. Break Out The Crafts

Chances are at any Thanksgiving dinner you attend there will be children. And kids love to do crafts! Have crafts ready to make such as Pilgrim hats, turkey headbands, or you could even make DIY glitter pumpkins. They will have a blast and so will you!

4. Play a Conversation Starter Game

While the kids are making their crafts, this is a great time for the adults to have a little fun too. I love the idea of asking guests questions about themselves to get to know them better. Play a conversation starter game to lighten the mood. It’s a great way to find out things about people you would never think to ask. And if you ever find the dinner conversation lagging, this can be a great way to keep things lively.

5. Share Your Favorite Recipe

Thanksgiving is definitely about cooking for others. So why not share your favorite recipe with your guests or neighbors? You can even bake your favorite holiday dessert for them to enjoy for Christmas.  Make sure to attach a recipe card so they can make a part of their regular holiday rotation!
